Lockyer Creek Bridge west of Brisbane

Construction in 1910.

Excerpt from detail bridge plan as published in 2011.

This photo is owned by Queensland Railways. The photo shows the almost completed concrete abutment at the south end of the bridge. Some shuttering (boxing) remains. Note the internal buttressing employed, and the rail laid for the use of wheeled skips to remove soil and waste, and for bringing in construction materials. The supplementary braced piers at the south end have already been cast. Reinforcing rods are protruding from both the abutment and the piers, which joined the soon to be built up arches to the piers and abutment. A hoist shows about the middle of the construction work, and may be in readiness for hoisting material for the soon to be constructed arches. The detail of this construction is interesting. The 1867 bridge shows in the background.
