Kim Thurlow's Portfolio of Queensland Steam
The number 1305 was one of a class of diesel electrics introduced in 1953, here shown drawing the southbound (Sydney Express) Wallangarra Mail into the Toowoomba platforms. This photo was taken from the eastern end of the footbridge which crossed the Toowoomba yard, connecting the freight area with the station platform. John Walker in email correspondence says "Along with other members of the 1300 class which were later re-numbered, 1305 was re-numbered 1155".
Note on the extreme left hand edge of the top picture, the shapely crowns of a few Bunya Pines (araucaria bidwillii), a native of the Darling Downs area, 50 miles north west of Toowoomba. And behind the station building, the date palms, presumably a native of another part of the world.
