Kim Thurlow's Portfolio of Queensland Steam

This view of the Toowoomba station (depot in US) was taken from the northern side, looking south, about 1961. The buildings were built of red brick. At the time this photo was taken, the whole exterior was white-washed.

The building on the immediate left housed offices, the central building belonged to the station master, waiting rooms, and the refreshment rooms. The low buildings further away were lavatories, parcels offices, and porters rooms. As of the early 21st century, the refreshment rooms are still operating, with standard home fare, and good value.

At one point in the 1980's, the sign on the male lavatories read "Gentleman" - I have a photo to prove it.
