This photo was taken at Bundaberg in Easter 1963 while I was on a break from a road survey job to the west of Moura. I was staying at the hotel, which overlooked the railway station.

These coaches were parked in the yard, so I am not sure for which particular train they were then used. I believe there was a Bundaberg Mail which left Brisbane about 6.30pm, dropped passengers for Gympie and Maryborough (at about 12.30am in the morning), then arrived in Bundaberg at about 2.30am. Were sleeper passengers aloud to lie in till day-break?

This 2nd class car is Number 1319, exterior of tuscan red, interior of polished Queensland maple and other local timbers. It had match-board sides, electric lighting, and 3 bunks, one up, one middle, and one down, in transverse compartments, with a corridor down one side. Corridor gangways, with rain and side cover of canvas, were used to allow access from coach to coach. Blankets were supplied, with suitable QR embroidered insignia.
