The Y4 (originally Y3b) were the last new N&W engines to be built outside the Roanoke works by an independent manufacturer, in this case Alco at Richmond. Number series 2080-9.
2080 was the first Y4, built in 1927 by Alco, Richmond.  An interesting view of the firebox door, and the coal screw feed beneath the footplate, on a Y4 locomotive.  2082 on the turntable, probably at Bluefield, VA. The Y4 were the first Y classes to have the sloping front sheet on the cab, called "sports model cabs."
